Sinai
Approximately 20 million years ago, what are today Egypt , Sinai, and the Arab Peninsula , were all united in a single block. Then a huge earthquake separated the land, isolating the southern Sinai Peninsula, about 300 miles east of Cairo , and giving rise to two large gulfs. The Gulf of Suez lies to the west and is 315 feet deep, whereas to the east, the Gulf of Aqaba is 5,905 feet deep. The mountains in Sinai range from 2,461 to 85,301 feet above sea level. The most impressive and renown mountains are Mt. Sinai (Moses' Mountain), that reaches 7,400 feet in height, and St. Catherine's Mountain, which stands 8,665 feet high.
Sharm El Sheikh
Sharm el Sheikh is a world-class resort destination that attracts sports-minded travelers and family groups, as well as visitors looking for a restful heaven in which to relax. Ras Mohamed Park
The park is situated in the tourist region of the Red Sea Riviera, located 12 km from the city of Sharm-el-Sheikh. The park spans an area of 480 km², including 135 km² of surface land area and 345 km² area over water. Marsa Bareika is a small bay inlet in Ras Mohammed, and Marsa Ghozlani is a very small inlet located across from the park visitor’s center.
Taba
Taba is a small Egyptian town near the northern tip of the Gulf of Aqaba. Taba is the location of Egypt's busiest border crossing with neighboring Israel. Little more than a bus depot and a luxury hotel (complete with casino), Taba is a frequent vacation spot for Egyptians and tourists, It is the northernmost resort of Egypt's Red Sea Riviera.
St. Catherine
The monastery of St. Catherine's, in the heart of the mountains of Sinai, is believed by Christians and Jews to be the place where God gave man the Ten Commandments. To some extent, this myth is also a part of Muslim faith. Above the deep valley lies the mountain which has been named Mount Sinai.
Dahab
Dahab means 'gold' in Arabic. In Sinai it means golden sands, turquoise sea and off-beat cafe life. It is a focus of tourism development, with swaying palms, fine sand and wonderful snorkeling opportunities. Dahab has excellent hotel accommodations, but also affords less expensive housing in the village, or camping. About 5 miles from town is the famous Blue Hole, for diving. Towards the Israeli border is the Island of Coral, where the Crusaders built a fort. The remains can still be seen.
Newiba
Nuweiba is a place for full relaxation on wonderful sandy beaches, among the nicest in all of Sinai, in total harmony with the incredible surrounding nature. Nuweiba is the only small town in the Red Sea Riviera still preserving the real original spirit of a Bedouin fishermen village, far from pollution and noise, with a few 4* resorts and several camps and simple hotels.
