Egypt has approximately 38,000 km (about 23,600 miles) total length of highways and roads, of which about 18,000 km (about 11,200 miles) are highways. Egypt also has approximately 33,600 km (about 21,000 mile) of railroads, runs from Alexandria to Aswan and covering the Nile Valley, Nile Delta, Mediterranean and Red Sea coasts, the Sinai, and the Western oases. Egypt-Air, the government-owned airline, provides reliable domestic air service to major tourist and commercial destinations in Egypt from its Cairo hub. Egypt has about 80 airfields.
The inland waterways of Egypt including the Nile, navigable throughout its course in the country, the approximately 1600 km (about 1000 mi) of shipping canals, and the more than 17,700 km (more than 11,000 miles) of irrigation canals in the Nile delta are used extensively for transportation.
